Dutchman Charters
On our first fishing charter we went
out with Captain Oscar Wijtenburg who has been fishing in the
Florida Keys for almost 20 years.
We went to the back country and
caught more different types of fish in five hours with Capt Oscar
than we did the entire rest of the week. We caught trout, snapper,
jacks, flounder, catfish, lady fish, bonnet head sharks and several
others.
We also saw sea turtles, porpoises,
osprey catching fish, pelicans, sea rays, a large bull shark and
countless species of birds.
You never can tell the personality of
a fishing charter captain, but we were pleasantly surprised with
Capt Oscar. He was extremely friendly, humorous and very willing to
cater to our requests. For example, the last hour of our charter
Capt Oscar showed us many good places around Islamorada and Lower
Matecumbe to take our rental boat to go fishing, and the various
techniques for catching fish in those areas.
We caught over 100 fish the rest of
the week including two sharks well over 6 ft in length. We really appreciated being shown around by Capt Oscar that first day.
